Scott Mayausky
Scott is the product of a hard-working blue collared family. Both of his grandfathers were coal miners from Western Pennsylvania; his parents grew up in a company town nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. They were high school sweethearts who married at the age of 18 and headed to Virginia seeking opportunity and to escape the harsh life of a mining family.
Hard work and conservative values were instilled in Scott at an early age as his father worked long hours in construction, and his mother raised two children. These are the values he has passed on to his two children, Brooke and Alex; these are the values that drove him to public service.
In 1990 Scott graduated from North Stafford High School and then became the first member of his family to graduate from college, receiving a bachelor's Degree in History from West Virginia University. Scott’s passion for knowledge ultimately led him to Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a Master's Degree in Government.
After college, Scott returned home and was elected Commissioner at the age of 26 years old, following in the footsteps of Commissioner George Gordon, Scott has proudly served his community with integrity and compassion.

NOTEWORTHY
The Elimination of the Vehicle License Fee (VLF): Scott Mayausky demonstrated his financial acumen and concern for taxpayers by successfully eliminating the Vehicle License Fee. This strategic move resulted in savings of $3 million for the taxpayers, reflecting his commitment to easing their financial burdens.
Lowering Car Tax Bills in 2022: In response to skyrocketing car values, Mayausky took decisive action to prevent an increase in car tax bills. His effective plan resulted in a significant reduction of these bills, saving taxpayers an additional $10 million in property taxes.

Scott believes that our future relies on the strength of our local communities. In his tenure as Commissioner, he has become a leader in tax policy and administration, contributing to the growth and financial stability of Stafford County. Under his watch, the Commissioner's office has generated nearly 70% of all local revenue, funding the salaries of school teachers, deputies, and firemen and supporting tourism and economic development.

Scott has become a leader in tax policy and administration; he has lectured and taught throughout the Commonwealth and has hosted tax professionals from more than 60 different nations.
Scott's dedication to good governance has been recognized nationally. He was awarded the prestigious Cahn Fellowship for Public Service and attended the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government in 2019.
